What makes you think you'd reduce power consumption?

The fact that the hard drive will spin at a lower speed.

So you think you might save power. I'd suspect you won't – I'd expect it to be a wash, or maybe even use more power, since the balance of the drives is going to be affected by not spinning at their engineered speed

I might be wrong, but I'd expect you to see equal-or-more power consumed, and a shorter lifespan atop lower performance

I'd like to be wrong – but knowing a modest amount of the type of engineering that goes into these devices, I suspect I'm not 🙂
